Early morning blaze displaces Murfreesboro family of six

MFRD

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Murfreesboro fire officials say a family of six have lost their home to an early morning fire.

Murfreesboro Fire Department spokeswoman Ashley McDonald says two adults and four children were displaced after a fire broke out at 2836 Vickwood Drive around 7:15 Wednesday morning.
In a press statement the department says a neighbor called 911 to report a fire and possible explosion next door. The home’s six residents were all out of the house by the time firefighters arrived.

Fire crews found the home’s garage and a bonus room above the garage fully engulfed in flame.

The blaze was quickly knocked down, keeping it from spreading further. However, heavy smoke and heat damage made the home unlivable. The Red Cross was called in to assist the family.
Fire Marshals are on the scene and investigating. The exact cause of the fire is unknown. There were no injuries reported.

Officials say the explosion heard by the neighbor may have been tires on a van in the garage blowing out as they burned.
