An entire month's worth of rain expected this week

NWS

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The good weather news is winter seems to finally be behind us, but the bad news is this week’s expected heavy rains could lead to flooding here in the mid-state.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service Office in Nashville say we could see another cold snap before old man winter loosens his grip on Middle Tennessee, but it isn’t likely.

We’re expecting daytime highs in the upper 50s and low 60s every day this week. But we’re going to pay for that warmer weather with lots of rain. Meteorologist Sam Shamburger says we could see as much rain this week as we normally get during the entire month of March.

“We’re expecting a couple of inches of rain tonight through Wednesday. Than another batch of heavy rain will move in Wednesday night through Friday, and then we could see two to three inches more rain. So when it’s all said and done, most of Middle Tennessee will have three to five inches of rain by the end of the week."

Shamburger says with the earth already saturated from recent rain and snow, and mid-state rivers and streams already running high, we could see some flooding toward the end of the week.
