MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- A federal disaster declaration for Tennessee is possible following last week’s deadly tornados.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency says it’s joining Tennessee Emergency Management Agency personnel in assessing damage around the state following severe weather last Friday
TEMA says that nearly 900 homes and other structures in 19 Tennessee counties reported damage. Forty-five people sought medical treatment for storm related injuries, but no deaths were reported.
The National Weather Service issued 75 Tornado warnings Friday. Meteorologist Mark Rose is with the Weather Service office in Nashville.
"The preliminary assessment is that there were nine tornados touch downs across the state Friday afternoon and evening. There were two in Middle Tennessee and seven on the eastern side of the state. Lots of thunderstorm damage...straighline wind damage; but again that's a preliminary count because assessments are still going on right now."
Hamilton, Bradley and Jackson counties appear to have suffered some of the worst damage.
