French Pianist CÉDRIC TIBERGHIEN Makes His Chicago Debut in a Solo Recital

This weekend, in a season including recitals in London, Vienna, Paris, Amsterdam, and Seoul, the French pianist Cédric Tiberghien opens the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's annual spring festival, Reveries and Passions, with a recital of works by Ravel, Debussy, and Szymanowski. Tiberghien's performance of a similar program in Boston last year drew high praise: "Call him indefatigable. In his Boston recital debut for the Celebrity Series at Longy School’s Pickman Hall Wednesday evening, 38-year-old French pianist Cédric Tiberghien blazed through a physically taxing program of Liszt, Szymanowski, and Ravel, nearly two hours of music, and then tossed off a pair of Debussy préludes as encores. Tiberghien’s technique is formidable, but it’s his intensity and poetic impulsiveness that catch the ear. - Jeremy Eichler, The Boston Globe, March 20, 2014 Tiberghien – who has appeared with the Cleveland Orchestra, and the symphonies of Boston, Seattle, Cincinnati, and Alabama, among other US dates – expresses an ardent enthusiasm for performing in America in this recent interview with the CSO's Sounds and Stories: “In America, where I really love working, I always have the feeling that here you have infinite opportunities...I feel when I’m playing here that everything is possible. There is such positive energy that you want to do better things, more things. You want to innovate..." ~ ~ ~ Elsewhere, Tiberghien is this season's Artist-in-Residence with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg and continues his cycle of the complete Beethoven Concertos with the Orchestre d'Ile de France. Solo recitals include the Wigmore Hall, the Salle Pleyel and the Theatre des Champs Elysees in Paris, and concerts in Salzburg, Sydney, Tokyo and – for the first time – on major series in Amsterdam, Vienna, and Seoul. ~~~
