MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- For the third time in a month a Murfreesboro resident has been assaulted and robbed by a gang of assailants.
Thirty-three-year-old Murfreesboro resident Jonathan J. Carlisle tells police he was attacked Wednesday night while walking near the corner of Vine St. and University near the Middle Tennessee State University campus.
Carlisle says he was approached by a group of 15 to 20 black males who asked to use his phone.
Carlisle was apparently knocked unconscious during the encounter, because he notes that when he woke up he found his wallet with his cash, and driver’s license were missing.
The responding officer noted that Carlisle did not have any visible injuries.
Back in early March, Murfreesboro resident Marvin L. Vaughn told police he was walking along Reid Avenue when he was attacked without warning by 6 black males and several black females.
That same week Murfreesboro resident Dustin Heath told police he was attacked by a group of six or seven black males while walking along W. Northfield Blvd.
Last fall, the Middle Tennessee office of the federal Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agency told WMOT that it was partnering with Murfreesboro Police to investigate gang activity in the city.
Murfreesboro Police say they have made some arrests connected to these incidents and have assigned additional officers to help stop the robberies.
