MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- General Mills announced Tuesday that it plans to add more than a hundred jobs to its plant in Murfreesboro as part of a multi-million dollar expansion.
The Daily News Journal reports the plant will expand production of Yoplait Yogurt and Toaster Strudel at the facility and may also add new product lines.
The company says it will spend $253 million to complete the expansion and intends to hire an additional 117 workers. Hiring will begin in early May.
General Mills is in the midst of a major overhaul of its North American operations. It recently closed plants in Indiana, Massachusetts, California and Canada.
The Murfreesboro plant was opened in 1988 and currently employs about 900 workers.
Rutherford County will reportedly consider offering General Mills incentives for the expansion at an Industrial Development Board meeting scheduled for tomorrow.
