GM moving production of the GMC Acadia to Spring Hill

SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  General Motors has made good on a promise to bring another vehicle production line to Middle Tennessee, announcing Tuesday at the Detroit Auto Show that the GMC Acadia will be built at Spring Hill.

The Acadia is a ten-year-old midsize crossover SUV, previously built at a GM plant in Lansing, Michigan. GMC spokesman George Jones says the model to be built here in the mid-state beginning this spring has been completely revised.

“It competes with vehicles like Explorer, and Highlander and those guys. The vehicle is typically geared towards family, those with a couple of kids who need a little more space for activities, cargo, people or things that they’re carrying.”

Jones says the Acadia had its best sales year ever in 2015.

Work to tool up the Spring Hill plant for the start of production is already underway. GM hasn’t yet announced how many new employees will be hired to build the GMC Acadia here in Middle Tennessee.
