Health law sign-ups grow as Feb. 15 deadline nears

WASHINGTON (AP) — This year’s open enrollment period under president Obama’s health care law comes to a close on Sunday.

So far, about 7.5 million people have enrolled using the Affordable Care Act’s online Insurance Marketplace. The marketplace provides federal subsidies for private health insurance for people who don't have job-based policies.

The Hope Clinic in Murfreesboro is one of the mid-state locations where you can get help navigating the online marketplace. For those who bought a marketplace policy last year, the clinic’s Cindy Rhea cautions that if your income changed during the year, it could affect your subsidy and your taxes.

“The assistance they’ve been receiving this year in the form of a tax credit could be changed or cancelled altogether. So we really encourage people to go in there and update their account.”

Officials are preparing for a surge during these last few days of enrollment. The Obama Administration’s goal is to have at least 9.1 million people enrolled and paying premiums for 2015.
