Heavy Rain, Possible Flooding This Weekend

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The National Weather Service is warning that Tennessee will see heavy rains and possible flooding this weekend.

Nashville based Weather Service Forecaster Sam Herron says heavy rains will start in West Tennessee this evening and arrive in Middle Tennessee tomorrow morning.

Herron says this is a slow moving system that will likely dump two to three inches of rain on ground that’s already saturated and streams that are already running high.

The Weather Service says it’s coordinating with TVA and the Corps of Engineers in an effort to manage the water levels in Tennessee’s rivers and streams.

“At this point they are releasing some water to prepare for the heavy rain that’s coming in, so hopefully the impacts will be minimized as much as possible.”

Herron says that at the moment the biggest concerns are for the lower parts of the Cumberland, Duck and Tennessee Rivers.

The Weather Service is reminding Tennesseans to never try to cross rain swollen creeks or streams.
