Help the RCSO solve a cold case murder

RCSO/TBI

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help in identifying the victim of a mid-state murder that dates from 1978.

In August of that year a body was found near the boat ramp at the Poole Knob boat ramp in LaVergne. The body was that of a white male who had been shot several times. The remains had been wrapped in a blanket and set on fire.

The Sheriff’s Office recently partnered with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to produce a composite sketch and are hoping someone will recognize the victim’s face.

The RCSO’s Detective Dan Goodwin says he’d like to give the victim’s family some closure and put a killer behind bars.

“Cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. We’re not sure if he was killed on the scene or brought there. There was blood evidence to suggest that he was dragged from the parking lot out into the weeds and bushes there at Poole Knobs boat ramp.”

Goodwin says the victim was a white male, 35 to 45 years of age, with mediu, m length, thinning brown hair, brown eyes, and wearing dentures. He had quarter-sized mole on his waistline and a fairly recent surgical scar on his chest.

If you have information regarding this case, contact Detective Dan Goodwin at 615-904-3046.
