NASHVILLE, Tenn. (OSBORNE) -- A new report says Nashville’s job market is losing steam.
WMOT News reporting partner Wallethub.com has released its annual ranking of the country’s best cities to find work.
In 2016 Metro was listed among the top ten cities in the nation for job seekers. Last year Nashville was still in the top twenty. This year Wallethub ranks Nashville 75th for employment prospects.
Analyst Jill Gonzalez says job growth remains strong, but rising costs are making the area less attractive to prospective employees.
“The housing affordability, home prices, fair-market rent; those have only continued to increase. So it is becoming a little bit harder, especially if you’re just starting out in Nashville to work and live there.”
Still more bad news, Gonzalez says the area’s average starting salaries and median income have both begun to stagnate.
As for Tennessee’s other large cities, Gonzalez says:
“Chattanooga's not too far behind at 88th. Knoxville at 101, Memphis at 157, and that’s again out of the 182 cities that we did look at.”
Arizona dominated the list, with four cities ranked in the top ten for best places to seek employment.
Tennessee’s neighboring states filled out the bottom of the list with cities in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana ranked as having some of the worst places to find work.
