MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Gasoline prices are rising again and fuel analysts with AAA say they may rise still higher.
AAA says the average price for unleaded gas has risen 8 cents in the past week and stands today at $2.10 a gallon.
Fuel analyst Stephanie Milani says there are several reasons for the change in direction. She says crude oil prices finally bottomed out and have risen slightly. She also says demand across the U.S. is up just a bit.
In addition, the AAA analyst says some U.S. oil refineries are offline for maintenance and to begin the switch to production of a the summer grade fuel.
She says while prices may rise, they aren’t expected to climb very high.
“AAA doesn’t expect that the national average will go above $3 a gallon in 2015. That could mean more money in the driver’s pocket and may be able to spend that money on something else rather than filling up their gas tanks.”
The Clarksville area has some of Tennessee’s cheapest gas, averaging $2.03 a gallon, according to AAA. The average price for a gallon of unleaded fuel stands at $2.10 today here in the mid-state.
