MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office says human remains have been discovered off of Big Springs Road about six miles southeast of Murfreesboro.
The department says the remains have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office for possible identification.
Officials say Sheriff’s detectives were assisted in the recovery of the remains by Dr. Hugh Berryman, Director of the Forensic Institute for Research and Education at Middle Tennessee State University.
Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold is quoted as saying, "We are waiting for identification and if possible, the cause of death."
A statement from the Sheriff’s Office says the remains appear to have been in the area for several months.
