We began the New Year on a high note, at APAP | NYC 2015, and then at the Chamber Music America 2015.

The conferences brought to town many friends and colleagues (including our wonderful West Coast representative Amy Carson-Dwyer) and offered excellent meetings, conversations, and events (a Colbert favorite was Ira Glass' APAP Sunday Plenary Session "Togetherness").

Jack Fairhall from Overture; stopped by the Colbert booth, and took the fun shot above!

In the midst of APAP, we took a quick trip across the Hudson River to catch New Jersey Symphony Music Director Jacques Lacombe lead the NJSO in the first concert of its Winter Festival, "Sounds of Shakespeare" in a gorgeous all-Romeo and Juliet program, covering selections from Tchaikovsky, Gounod, and Prokofiev.

The irrepressible JACK Quartet (seen here on tour in December) saw many of you during the conferences as they performed 2015  New York dates at Roulette, SubCulture, and the Park Avenue Armory.

Then they headed to London's Wigmore Hall to play a program including the new Haas String Quartet No. 8, winning audience acclaim and praise from The Guardian, and from the Financial Times
"There’s something almost evangelical about the JACK Quartet...the ensemble’s intense and audacious performances have been known to convert even the most conservative listeners.“

Harpist Yolanda Kondonassis and guitarist Jason Vieaux have brought their great musical partnership to disc, in "Together."

Preview the album with this excellent video, and let us know if you're interested in learning more (the duo offers touring programs)!

Cédric Tiberghien snapped this wonderfully serene image of his view from the rehearsal studio of The Isabel Bader Center (where our great friend, Tricia Baldwin, formerly of Tafelmusik, is now programming) in Ontario, where he performed a recital on Jan. 14.

Just a week earlier, he offered a powerfully moving interpretation of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major with the Alabama Symphony.

Is that an art gallery?

No, it's Colbert's new office; come and visit us sometime!

Be sure to tune into CBS Sunday Morning on January 25; Anne Akiko Meyers will be featured in a story about historic violins (and the excellent violinists who play them).

Marc-André Hamelin joined the San Francisco Symphony's gala celebration of Michael Tilson Thomas' 70th birthday – and while there, caught up with a very special fan and fellow guest artists, Elvis Costello.

Ken-David Masur leads the Boston Symphony Orchestra this weekend in a lush program of Berlioz and more. Christina Putnam and Emily Motherwell will be there tonight to catch the action!

Many of you may have met the wonderfully gregarious Adrian Fung of the Afiara Quartet at CMA.

Check out the trailer (above) for the Afiara's latest project, Spin Cycle

Pianist Ran Dank (above, middle) and his wife, pianist Soyeon Kate Lee, created an innovative chamber music series, Music By the Glass.  Aimed at engaging patrons of all ages, MBTG's theme is "great music, wine, company!"

Catch Dank on Feb. 8 performing a program of Boulez, Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt for the Peoples Symphony

Charlotte Schroeder attended the CMA National Conference Banquet (honoring the Emerson Quartet) and met with a number of good friends, including Ab Sengupta of Da Camera Houston (above), Julie Himmelstrup of The Schubert Club's Music in the Park Series, CMA CEO Margaret Lioi (below), and many others.

On Zuill Bailey's new disc:

"At a casual glance, the pairing of Nico Muhly’s 2012 Cello Concerto with 'Schelomo' and the 'Three Jewish Poems' of Ernest Bloch might seem an odd combination. But listen to the world premiere recording of this lush, invigorating score in context, and the relationships become clearer...Bailey’s playing is strong-limbed and sensitive throughout..." – Joshua Kosman, San Francisco Chronicle, Jan. 21, 2015
