COLUMBIA, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — Authorities in Maury County are asking for the public’s help in solving two, possibly related, cold case murders.
George Barrett Dugger died in August, 2008. Dugger's body was found in his burning home. A medical examiner found Dugger had not inhaled soot or smoke, meaning he was dead before the fire was set. An autopsy revealed he’d been fatally stabbed.
More than two years later, the body of Dugger's uncle was found shot several times in the front seat of his car. That killing is being investigated by the Maury County Sheriff’s Office and hasn’t been solved either.
Detective Joey Gideon says the Columbia Police Department is investigating George Dugger’s death as a first-degree murder.
“I think that someone out there knows who the murderer is in this case and we’d like anyone with information on this to come forward. They can contact Crime Stoppers at 931-381-4900.”
Gideon notes that all Crime Stopper tips remain anonymous and they do offer a cash reward of up to $1000 for an arrest and conviction.
