NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Inspectors have completed their visits to several Tennessee prisons after conducting a review requested by state officials.
The Tennessean reports (http://tnne.ws/1LC7JZP ) inspectors from the American Correctional Association finished their visits Wednesday.
The national organization, which provides accreditation to state prison systems, visited five facilities at the request of the state's Department of Correction.
On Thursday, executive director of the association James Gondles said he expects the organization to have a report ready for the state within one week. He declined to provide any further details.
The visits come amid reports of understaffing, which correction officers say creates unsafe working conditions.
Department of Correction spokeswoman Alison Randgaard says the inspectors are reviewing staffing patterns, vacancies and incident reporting. She says once received, the report will be made available to the public.
