Investigation: Tenn. high school team had 'culture of hazing'

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — An investigation finds a Tennessee high school basketball program had a "culture of hazing" even before three of its players were charged with the rape of a freshman teammate.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/2bqYKF0) reports that the Hamilton County Board of Education voted Thursday to release the findings of the Ooltewah High School investigation, which was conducted by attorney Courtney Bullard.

Gatlinburg police have charged three Ooltewah players with aggravated rape in a Dec. 22 assault on a freshman teammate in an apparent hazing incident.

Bullard's investigation said Ooltewah coach Andre Montgomery knew "excessive horseplay" was occurring within the team before this Dec. 22 incident. Montgomery is facing charges of failing to report child sexual abuse to the proper authorities.
