MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The man that DownBeat magazine calls “one of the finest performing jazz trombonists around today” is making an appearance Thursday in Middle Tennessee.

Chris Brubeck, son of jazz legend Dave Brubeck, is set to perform Thursday evening in Lipscomb University’s Collins Auditorium beginning at 8 p.m.

Brubeck, an award-winning composer and band leader, tours the nation playing a mix of jazz, blues, folk, funk, pop and classical styles. He'll be joined onstage tonight by guitarist Joel Brown and harmonica virtuoso Peter “Madcat” Ruth.

Brubeck says living on the road can be difficult at times, but playing with old friends like Brown and Ruth keep the show fresh.

“An audience, whether they’re musically sophisticated or not, they can general tell if someone knows what they’re doing musically, and also can really tell if people are having a lot of fun on stage. They catch that happy disease and we have a great time.”

Tickets for Chris Brubeck’s trio performance are $15. You can purchase them online at www.lipscomb.edu/music or at the Lipscomb Allen Arena box office.

The show begins at 8 p.m. Thursday night in the Collins Auditorium.
