Junger Speaks About War-Time Reporting at MTSU

MURFREESBORO, Tenn (WMOT)  --  Best-selling author, journalist and documentarian Sebastian Junger was on the Middle Tennessee State campus
Tuesday to talk about his wartime reporting.

Junger is the acclaimed author of the book “The Perfect Storm,” which became a major motion picture. But he's also an accomplished journalist and filmmaker best-known for the war documentary "Restrepo."

MTSU Professor of Journalism Leon Alligood was Junger’s host for the visit and says he wanted his journalism students to understand what it means for a reporter to follow soldiers into battle.

“He witnessed everything: the highs, the lows, the hi-jinks and the terror and he wrote about it so well. I thought our students would benefit from hearing about that."

The lecture Junger delivered was entitled, “Dispatches from War: Stories from the Front Lines of History.”

Junger’s visit was especially poignant because his long-time colleague, filmmaker Tim Hetherington, was recently killed while covering the conflict in Libya.
