MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  State Senator Bill Ketron of Murfreesboro has reimbursed the state for more than $17,000 in travel costs after it was discovered he had been paid twice for the expenses.

WTVF-TV says Ketron is just one of several state lawmakers who have been reimbursed by the state and also by their campaign funds for the same travel costs.

Ketron says he was “horrified” when he learned of the mistake and insisted he had no idea it was happening. The senator told the station two different staff members were reimbursing him for the same expenses without realizing it.

Reps Ryan Haynes of Knoxville and Antonio Parkinson of Memphis were also found to be double-dipping. Both have since reimbursed the state for the overpayments.

WTVF notes that Senator Ketron heads the state legislature’s Fiscal Review Committee, charged with ensuring state funds are spent appropriately.
