KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WMOT) -- The City of Knoxville is named in a short list of the nation’s top performing metropolitan economies.
A new report from the Brookings Institute says that Dallas, Pittsburgh and Knoxville are the only metro areas in the U.S. to return to pre-recession levels of economic activity.
The report is getting Knoxville some national media attention. Just this morning, Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero was heard on the nationally syndicated radio program, The Take Away. She noted that Knoxville has benefited from government spending at both the federal and state levels.
“The Oak Ridge National Lab, the Oak Ridge complex – Oak Ridge, Tennessee – just up the road from us is a major employer. The University of Tennessee, our state flagship university, is here.”
She says the city’s investment in amenities, urban green spaces in particular, is attracting new business investment to the area.
Rogero also says Knoxville is offering what she calls “strategic incentives” to developers to help them to complete urban projects.
