NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Officials in two mid-state counties are reporting significant damage following yesterday’s flash flooding, as today’s forecast threatens more severe weather.
Officials say about 20 homes were destroyed in Stewart County, along with a church and day care. Sumner County reports 30 homes damaged and four bridges with major damage.
Tennessee emergency officials say straight-line winds also downed trees and caused sporadic power outages in Nashville and a wide swath of northern and Middle Tennessee into parts of southwestern Kentucky.
A State of Emergency declared yesterday by the state remains in effect as more severe weather is expected today.
The Weather Service says severe storms, including damaging winds, heavy downpours and flash flooding are possible.
