MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- New details are available now on that road rage shooting here in Murfreesboro.
Murfreesboro Police say they were called to the intersection of Middle Tennessee and Broad Street just before noon Wednesday. A police report says that 59-year-old La Vergne resident James Ross was shot in the stomach by 23-year-old Bell Buckle resident Isaac Garner.
Ross made a statement to police before being flown by Life Flight helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment. He says Garner was driving 20 miles an hour, so he decided to pass. When he did so, Ross says the cars collided.
Ross got out of his vehicle and went back to speak to Garner. He says when he approached the driver side door, Garner shot him.
Garner, a senior at Middle Tennessee State University, tells police Ross approached his door in an aggressive manner and he feared for his life. A police statement says Garner was released without being arrested.
The MPD is asking that anyone who might have witnessed the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 615-893-STOP. That’s 893-7867.
There’s no word yet on James Ross’ medical condition.
