Lights are Back on at MTSU After Planned Power Outage

The electricity is back on in almost all MTSU buildings after a two-day planned power outage for electrical repairs.

Power was restored by 3 p.m. today to all but three of the 31 affected facilities and eight houses on Greek Row.

Abernathy Hall, the Alumni Memorial Gym and the Natatorium will be without power on Friday, Jan. 4, but the dorm and AMG should be have power restored by noon Friday, MTSU officials said. The Natatorium will have power restored by 4:30 p.m.

Utility crews from MTSU and the Murfreesboro Electrical Department worked Wednesday and today, Jan. 2 and 3, to repair electrical equipment damage from a November electrical fault and continue work on the university’s ongoing underground electrical project.

Departments temporarily displaced by the power outages have already begun moving back into their usual spaces and should be up and running for business as usual on Friday morning, Jan. 4.

However, the James E. Walker Library will remain closed Jan. 4 as announced and all electronic resources, including databases, e-journals and e-books, will remain offline. The library will reopen on Monday, Jan. 7.

Student Health Services also will be closed Jan. 4. Immunization forms can be turned in to Guidance Services in Keathley University Center Room 326S.

MTSU offices reopened at 8 a.m. Jan. 2 after a nine-day holiday break. Spring 2013 semester classes will begin Thursday, Jan. 17.
