A unique approach to educating older adults will be the topic on the next edition of the “MTSU On the Record” radio program.
Host Gina Logue’s interview with Fred Colvin, MTSU professor emeritus of history, will air from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, April 20, and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, April 26, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and www.wmot.org).
Colvin will be one of the professors teaching in MTSU’s inaugural Lifelong Learning Program, which is scheduled for 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 4, 11, 18 and 26 in the Sam Ingram Building, 2269 Middle Tennessee Blvd.
The program, which is sponsored by the MTSU College of Liberal Arts, is an opportunity for adults age 50 and older to take noncredit classes in a relaxed atmosphere with no homework or tests required.
Colvin will lecture about Tennessee history, and Tanya Peres-Lemons will lecture about Tennessee archaeology.
“Over the years I taught here, from 1969 to 2010, nontraditional or older students were overwhelmingly so enjoyable because most of them had life experiences, careers and whatnot that enabled them to see these educational opportunities in a perhaps more serious and different light,” Colvin said.
