Man found hanged in a RuCo Sheriff's Office cell

RCSO

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The TBI says a mid-state man hanged himself over the weekend at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office as he was being booked on domestic assault charges.

WSMV-TV quotes the TBI saying 32 year old Jonathan Maxwell hanged himself with the cord from a pay phone in a holding cell during the booking process.

Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold and 16th District Attorney General Jennings Jones asked the TBI to lead the investigation.

The TBI says it will collect evidence and attempt to learn how Maxwell managed to hang himself unobserved in his cell. An autopsy will be performed.

The TBI will submit evidence in the case to the District Attorney’s office for review.
