MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --   Tennessee may never be considered progressive, but it turns out that Murfreesboro is a place where women can find a surprisingly high level of equality, at least where work life is concerned.

The personal finance website Nerdwallet.com decided torate the nation’s cities for workplace equalityand Murfreesboro clocked in at fourth in the medium sized cities category.

Nerdwallet looked at a number of criteria, including the wage gap rates, affordability, and labor-force participation rates.

Nerdwallet analyst Courtney Miller says Murfreesboro has an unusually small gap between salaries paid to men and salaries paid to women.

“Women are earning about 92 percent of what men are earning, and that’s quite a bit different from the average mid-sized city which is actually 82 percent. So that puts women in Murfreesboro at kind of an advantage.”

By way of comparison, Miller says that in Irvine, California, women earn just 59 percent of what men earn.
