MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Mid-State consumers say they intend to scale back their purchases slightly in the coming months, but the latest Middle Tennessee Consumer Survey shows consumer sentiment remains high.
Dr. Tim Graeff conducts the MTSU quarterly consumer survey. The poll was conducted this past week with just over 300 residents in Williamson, Davidson and Rutherford counties.
Overall confidence ticked down seven points from the end of 2014, but Graeff says consumer sentiment remains above 300 points, a high mark it last reached in 2007.
Graeff says its not unusual to see a bit of a downturn once the year-end holidays are over.
“At the beginning of the year they almost come back to reality a little bit, so it’s not uncommon for us to see a slight decrease in consumer’s outlook like we saw this year.”
Graeff says consumers generally still feel pretty good about their own finances. He says they’re feeling less confident about the national economy. He says that concern has tamped down spending plans for the coming months.
