MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A mid-state legislator is supporting his campaign for higher office by raffling off a handgun.

State Rep. Joe Carr of Lascassas is challenging fellow Republican Lamar Alexander for his Senate seat in the August primary.

Carr recently began raising campaign funds by raffling a Baretta 92A1 semi-automatic handgun. According to WGNS Radio, 30,000 people have now entered the raffle.

Car says he chose the Baretta to celebrate the Second Amendment, and the fact that the Baretta company will soon open a manufacturing plant in Tennessee.

Statistics provided by the Federal Election Commission show that, through the end of 2013, Joe Carr had raised about $600,000, while Lamar Alexander had raised more than 3 million.
