MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Music students from a dozen mid-state high-schools will get chance to rub elbows with jazz great Bill Cunliffe this weekend.

The jazz pianist and band leader will be at Middle Tennessee State University Saturday for this year’s MTSU Jazz Festival. Students will get a chance sit in on Cunliffe’s piano jazz master class beginning at 2:45 p.m.. At 4:30p.m. the students get their own chance to play.

Then Saturday night Jazz Studies Director Jamey Simons says Cunliffe will join the MTSU Jazz Ensemble One and the Jazz Department faculty for a special performance.

“He has a very special arrangement, a very interesting arrangement of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto, Movement One that he has arranged for Big Band and it’s going to be something I think that’s pretty special.”

The afternoon classes are free and open to the public. Call the MTSU School of Music if you’d like to get the show time and ticket prices for the evening concert with Bill Cunliffe.
