MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Drama students at Murfreesboro’s Central Magnet School have something to sing about.

Central’s Drama Department learned recently that the school has won a national contest put on by the NBC-TV program SMASH called "Make a Musical."

Central received more than 53,000 online votes to win, more than any other school in the nation. Student Emily Wilson says the school really appreciated the support.

“All of my family posted to Facebook and Twitter to vote for us and we had companies in the community put out signs to vote for us and we just have a community that really supports what we’re doing her at Central.”

Prizes for winning include the rights to perform a musical, two master classes with New York-based iTheatrics' instructors, a local project advisor, two teacher stipends, and $3,000 from Lowes to make upgrades to the school theater.
