Middle Tennesse has State's Best Jobless Rates

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The latest county unemployment report shows that eight of the ten counties with Tennessee’s lowest jobless rates are located in the mid-state.

The State Department of Labor has released the county level unemployment data for May. Lincoln County in the southeastern corner of the mid-state had Tennessee's lowest May unemployment rate at 4.4 percent, with Williamson County ranked second at 4.6 percent.

Wilson, Rutherford, Robertson, Cheatham, Sumner and Davidson counties round out the list of mid-state counties with Tennessee's lowest jobless rates.

Just two counties in Tennessee still have unemployment rates above ten percent. Scott County north of Oak Ridge had a 12.5 percent jobless rate in May, while Lincoln County in West Tennessee had a 10.6 percent unemployment rate.

Contrast that with May of 2009 when 78 of Tennessee’s 95 counties had jobless rates above 10 percent.
