MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Murfreesboro suffered a rash of more than 30 auto burglaries this past weekend.

Most of the burglaries were concentrated in two areas. The first are is located immediately west of Middle Tennessee State University. The other is south and east of Oakland High School.

Mary Booten of Oak Hill Drive was just one of roughly  33 Murfreesboro residents to have a vehicle burglarized. She told police she discovered Friday morning someone had taken a purse and contents she valued at $800.

Kyle Evans with Murfreesboro Police says the department finds the burglary spree “disturbing.”

“We have already taken steps to try and find out who is responsible for this. Our Directed Patrol Unit will be increasing residential patrols in the affected neighborhoods. We are also working with area residents to create neighborhood watches in some of the neighborhoods that do not currently have a Neighborhood Watch program. So it is something that is definitely on our radar and we’re working hard to make an arrest in these cases.”

Evans reminds residents to lock their vehicles even when they’re parked in the driveway, and to never leave valuables in the vehicle.
