More on the Battle against Islamic State Militants on The World for 10-21

Taking a ride with Haiti's ambulance service. More on that in just a minute.

First, our top stories today. We want to take you to the frontlines of the battle against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria. Veteran reporter Jane Arraf has been visiting refugee camps in northern Iraq, and will tell us about preparations as winter approaches. We're also trying to make contact with an American ex-military man who has gone to fight with the Kurds against ISIS.

Also, we'll check in the our BBC colleague Milton Nkozi who has been covering the Oscar Pistorius trial in South Africa. Pistorius was sentenced to five years in prison today for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, but he may be eligible for parole after only 10 months.

Plus, we check in with VICE news Mexico City bureau chief Daniel Hernandez. He's been out with citizen groups in Guerrero, Mexico who are searching for the bodies of those missing students.

And now back to those ambulances in Haiti. Almost five years ago, a massive earthquake destroyed much of the country. Gerry Hadden has just been to Haiti, and reports on one small sign that things are improving - he rides along with the country's nascent ambulance service.
