Twenty-one MTSU students, who have modified four go-karts and one golf cart to run on five different alternative fuels, will have an end-of-semester competition at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13.
The location will be on or around Lightning Way and the back of the Tennessee Livestock Center. Lightning Way is near Champion Way and Greenland Drive.
At 1 p.m., the students will be making last-minute tweaks and adjustments to their vehicles in or around the Vocational Agriculture building (shop area). At approximately 2 o’clock, professor Cliff Ricketts, an alternative fuels researcher, will start the competition.
The five alternative fuels they are using to make their vehicles run include hydrogen, ethanol, propane, solar electric and hydrogen peroxide. Ricketts considers this "the epitome" of experiential learning.
