MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  -- A Middle Tennessee State Blue Raider’s linebacker is recovering at Vanderbilt Medical Center after suffering serious injury during Saturday's game against Troy.

MTSU says football standout Craig Allen underwent successful surgery on Sunday to remove a herniated disk from his neck and is expected to make a full recovery.

"We are just grateful that the injury was not any worse,” said Head Coach Rick Stockstill. “Our thoughts and prayers will be with him as he goes through the recovery process."

Allen will be out for the remainder of the season. His football future will be evaluated at a later date as doctors follow his progression.
