MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Middle Tennessee State University has opened what it’s calling the Veterans and Military Family Center.
In remarks inaugurating the Center yesterday, MTSU president Sidney A. McPhee noted that the 2,600-square-foot facility is the largest and most comprehensive such facility among Tennessee Universities.
MTSU says the Center was built at a cost of $329,000 and will be a one-stop-shop for MTSU’s approximately 1,000 student veterans and family members.
Music great Charlie Daniels was on hand. A veterans charity Daniels operates donated $50,000 for the center’s technology needs.
“I submit to you that our government has no more important business to conduct than making sure that those who fight our wars – all of our wars – receive whatever care they require, be it medical, educational, or just good sound advice.”
It was also announced at yesterday’s opening that MTSU has once again been named to the 2016 list of Military Friendly Schools by the magazine G.I. Jobs.
The center will employ five full-time staff, including a mental health counselor, and 17 part-time student-veterans.
