MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (OSBORNE) -- A new poll shows solid support among Tennessee voters for immigrants and for the legalization of medical marijuana.
Middle Tennessee State University surveyed 600 registered voters from across the state in late March.
The polls shows 55 percent of Tennesseans surveyed would allow undocumented residents to stay in the country and apply for citizenship. When asked specifically about so-called Dreamers, young immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children, a remarkable three out of four Tennesseans would allow them to become American citizens.

“There seems to be a pretty strong and non-partisan consensus among Tennessee voters that at least immigrants who were brought here as children without documentation should be allowed to stay and become citizens if they so choose.”
Dr. Blake says the latest numbers from the MTSU Poll also show strong support among Tennessee voters for the legalization of marijuana for medicinal purposes. Some 44 percent say pot should be legal for medical use while 37 percent say recreational use should also be allowed.
Dr. Blake says even traditionally conservative Evangelical Christians support medical marijuana in surprising numbers.
“A 51 percent majority say marijuana should be legal for medicinal use only. Of course, as you might expect, that group’s not very supportive of legalizing marijuana for recreational use.”
The MTSU Poll has a margin of error of four percentage points.
