MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- President Donald Trump’s support among Tennesseans has declined since the November election, according to a poll out Wednesday.
The survey was conducted by Middle Tennessee State University earlier this month. The poll involved 600 registered voters statewide and asked whether they approve of how Trump is handling the presidency so far.
Trump’s support has dropped almost ten percentage points since November but more than half of Tennesseans still give him a favorable job rating.
The MTSU Poll also asked Tennesseans about Gov. Bill Haslam's plan to raise the gax tax to pay for new roads.
Among residents who've actually heard about the Governor's plan, a slight majority approve the idea. The bad news for Haslam is that a lot of the state’s residents still haven’t heard about the proposal.
The poll shows that 38 percent of those surveyed support the tax hike plan, while 28 percent are opposed. But among those who’ve actually heard about the plan, 51 percent are supportive.
The governor’s proposal gets its first hearing in the Tennessee Legislature Wednesday.
