MTSU to Prevent Sinking Creek from Becoming ‘Stinking Creek’ March 11

Some members of the MTSU community will be spending their spring break helping the greater Murfreesboro community.

Volunteers are being recruited to help clean up Sinking Creek and the adjacent wetland between McAlister’s Deli and Murfreesboro Animal Clinic at 1616 Memorial Blvd. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 11.

The project seeks to remove trash and debris that are clogging the stream. Volunteers will need to bring gloves, work boots, bottled water and snacks, sunscreen, bug spray and waders, if available.

Lunch will not be provided. Volunteers will be dismissed for lunch between noon and 1 p.m.

This event is part of MTSU’s Alternative Breaks Program. The university’s Office of Student Organizations & Service offers students opportunities to make a difference in the community in a local, national or global effort.

Partners in the Sinking Creek cleanup include the City of Murfreesboro and the stormwater program of MTSU’s Office of Environmental Health and Safety.

To volunteer, or to obtain more information, contact Jackie Victory at 615-898-5812 or jackie.victory@mtsu.edu.
