The next edition of the “MTSU On the Record” radio program focuses on the societal importance of forensic science.
Host Gina Logue’s interview with Dr. Hugh Berryman, forensic anthropologist and research professor in the MTSU Department of Sociology and Anthropology, will air from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and http://www.wmot.org).
Berryman will host the Tennessee Valley Corridor Forensics Symposium at MTSU Oct. 29 and 30. Coroners and other forensic specialists from Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky and Alabama will attend.
The Forensic Institute for Research and Education at MTSU, which Berryman founded, brings faculty and students together to provide educational and training opportunities for law enforcement, medical examiners, coroners, attorneys, social workers and other groups in forensic science and homeland security.
“That person who’s dead can’t talk anymore,” said Berryman. “The only person that will ever be able to talk for that person is the medical examiner or the death investigator or the forensic anthropologist who actually looks at what happened, can make some sense out of it and can be the voice of that deceased person in trying to bring justice.”
