‘MTSU On the Record’ Jams to a Reggae Beat on Next Program

Reggae music, the lifeblood of the Jamaican people, is the topic on the next “MTSU On the Record” radio program.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Dr. Mike Alleyne, author of “The Encyclopedia of Reggae” and a professor in MTSU’s Department of Recording Industry, will air at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, and 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and wmot.org).

Alleyne, a London native whose parents were born in Barbados, covers the golden age of roots reggae from the late 1960s up to the mid-1980s. His colorful, accessible book includes a timeline, best-of lists and essays on artists, labels, producers and other aspects of the genre’s influence, including Rastafarianism and ganja.
