MTSU Signs Pact with University in Turkey
MURFREESBORO: Tenn. (WMOT) -- Middle Tennessee State has signed an agreement that will result in a student exchange between the university and a school in the nation of Turkey.
MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee and Dr. Resit Ozkanca of Meliksah University in Kayseri, Turkey, inked the deal Monday in Murfreesboro.
Dr. McPhee says his goal in signing the agreement is to help prepare students to compete in the global market place.
“Students are now competing not only with students from Kentucky, or Mississippi, or California. They’re competing with students from China, from Japan, from Germany, from England. I think our role as a university is to prepare students to be competent and effective - as they leave the university - in a global society.”
The agreement between MTSU and Meliksah will allow third-year students from Turkey to finish their studies in Murfreesboro and earn degrees from both institutions. It also will allow faculty, staff and students from MTSU to teach or study in Turkey.
The exchange is set to begin in the spring of 2013.
