NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — A panel discussion on higher education and workforce readiness sponsored by the Nashville Business Journal was held Wednesday afternoon.

The panel discussed current trends in higher education designed to help students be competitive in the workforce.

Kate Herman, Publisher of the Nashville business journal said some mid-state employers report having a hard time finding qualified workers, especially in the technology and trades industries.

“We want to stay ahead of that and make sure we’re ahead of the game and we’re continuing to offer the best that we can so that we have that workforce readily available because it’s so important to our economy here.”

Panelists included University of Tennessee System President Joe DiPietro, Middle Tennessee State University President Sidney McPhee, Western Governors University Tennessee Chancellor Kimberly Estep and Volunteer State Community College President Jerry Faulkner.
