MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Murfreesboro Police Department will host a drug take-back  and a gun buy-back day this weekend.

This is the second gun buy-back the MPD has conducted. The department will give a Kroger gift card to anyone who turns in a gun. The program is anonymous and working or non-working firearms will be accepted.

Major Clyde Adkison says you can also turn in unused prescription drugs without even having to get out of your car.

“We burn these under EPA guidelines, and it gets the medicines out of the house, and out of the hands of any particular drug dealer, and particularly children if you have children in the household.”

Both events will take place Saturday morning beginning at 8 a.m. in front of the DePaul Medical Building at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro.

Prescription medications should be turned in in their original containers.
