MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A Murfreesboro man says he was carjacked at gunpoint yesterday afternoon while his wife stepped into a local bank.

Searcy Street resident Kenneth M. Hughes has a disability that prevents him from speaking clearly, so police say he wrote down his description of the incident.

Hughes recounted that his wife left him in the car with the motor running while she ran into the Ascend Credit Union on Clark Blvd. yesterday at around 5:30 p.m. He says while she was gone, a tall, lanky white male got into the car, pointed a gun at him and threated to kill him if he didn’t get out.

Hughes says he stayed put, so the suspect drove off with the 73-year-old man still in the car. He says the carjacker drove about two miles before jumping out on Memorial Blvd. and running away. Hughes then got behind the wheel and drove back to the Ascend parking lot.

The MPD has assigned a detective to the case.
