MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A Murfreesboro man was shot Tuesday evening after refusing to surrender his ATM cash to a robber.

Murfreesboro Police say they were called to a shots fired incident near the corner of Mercury and Middle Tennessee Blvd just before 7 p.m. On arriving they found that 66 year-old Frank Yost had been shot in the left thigh.

Yost told police that he had just withdrawn cash from an ATM when a black male wearing a grey hoodie and dark pants approached and demanded the money.

Yost refused and tried to get into his car. He says at that point the assailant pulled out a silver handgun and shot him before fleeing.

The assailant is described as in his mid-20s, approximately 5’ 9” tall, and weighing roughly 150 pounds.

Yost was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment. There’s no word on his condition.
