Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra Family Concert and Music Excellence Awards

This is an opportunity for family fun not to be missed.   On Saturday January 28, 2012 the Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra (MSO) will  present the Richard Siegel Foundation /MSO Music Excellence Awards to public school students in the 6thto 12thgrades who have been nominated by their schools for their outstanding musical excellence as well as citizenship.  A family concert follows the award presentation. The event will take place at the First United Methodist Church , 256 West Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro.

 “ This ceremony and concert is dedicated to the families and children of Rutherford County.  It contributes to MSO’s mission of promoting music education.  It is our way to thank the community for its support over the years,” says Joe Lee,  MSO conductor.

Family activities start at 10am.  Murfreesboro Youth Orchestra volunteers will help young concert goers with an instrument petting zoo. Volunteers from the Murfreesboro Art League and the St Clair Senior Center Art Club will paint faces.  There will be an art station. Dancers from the Dance Theater of TN will demonstrate different dances.  Read-to Succeed plans to participate.

A half-hour award ceremony will begin at 10:30am.   Starting at 11am, under the direction of  MSO conductor Joseph Lee,  the concert will feature Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf”, with WMOT announcer Henri Pensis as the narrator.   The concert will also include Mozart’s Eine kleine Nacht Musik and the first movement of the Double Violin Concerto by Bach.  The Murfreesboro Youth Orchestra will play two pieces alongside the MSO.
