Music and conversation with the legendary Frank Mantooth and Beegie Adair

This week on Improvised Thoughts with Beegie Adair we'll spend the hour with the great composer/arranger/pianist and bandleader Frank Mantooth in a program from early 1996.  At that time Mantooth had a new big band album "Sophisticated Lady" - a 70+ minute, ten track collection (seven are composed and/or arranged by Mantooth) on SeaBreeze Jazz.  Mantooth assembled a band of great soloists & section players from all across the country for this recording.  The list of talent included: Pete Christlieb, Nick Brignola, Bobby Shew, Paul McKee, Marvin Stamm, Pat LaBarbera, Tom Matta & singer Kevin Mahogany ... a terrific band with equally fine, sophisticated, often hard-swinging arrangements.
"Sophisticated Lady" was Frank Mantooth's 4th album as a leader.  He only recorded 5 CDs, but earned 11 Grammy nominations for them before his untimely death in 2004.  It's a pleasure to share this hour of music and conversation with you as we feature the legendary Frank Mantooth on the next Improvised Thoughts with Beegie Adair.
