SYNOPSIS:
Music City Baroque presents “Fairest Isle,” a concert of chamber music from England for voice and instruments, on Sunday, September 30 at 3:00 p.m. at Woodmont Christian Church, 3601 Hillsboro Pike (at Woodmont), Nashville. The program celebrates the rich musical heritage of England, and features orchestral dance music by Matthew Locke for Shakespeare’s play the Tempest, as well instrumental and vocal music by Henry Purcell, Thomas Campion, Jean-Baptiste Loeillet and Christopher Simpson. Admission is free (donations will be accepted at the door).
Music City Baroque, now in its ninth season, offers ensemble and chamber music of the 17thand 18thcenturies played on period instruments, in the style the composers would have heard, with all its original color and passion. Performers are drawn from members of the Nashville Symphony and faculties of the schools of music at Vanderbilt, MTSU and Belmont.
